Rockstar Jose Alvarez did not believe he needed any help with his training and racing. His numbers don’t lie!

Rockstar: Jose Alvarez

Coaches Notes:

Jose did not want to join my coaching program. He was doing his own thing following an online program, while his wife Carmen decided to join us. I would see him at all the training sessions doing his own thing- wishing I would get the opportunity to work with him because I noticed a few things he could improve upon!

Finally after a few months of seeing Carmen’s improvements, Carmen gifted him his evaluations and we were able to start measuring his baseline so I could prove to him, after working on his technique he could get even faster.

Jose was already fast. He already trained a lot. He did not know what he did not know!

This is my favorite athlete to work with because they are already dedicated to doing the work.

It’s the technique, nutrition and pacing work that this type of athlete is missing that makes all the difference in getting faster and stronger with the same amount of work.

Read below for all the details- Congratulation Jose you are truly a Rockstar Triathlete. Looking forward to your next PR at NC 70.3 in a few weeks!

What is your age?
61 years young

What is your profession?:
Retired

Why did you choose FCC to help you on your triathlon/health and wellness journey?
I wanted to improve my performance.  The way to improve was to incorporate better technique into the different disciplines of Triathlon.

What is your “A” race for this season?
My A races for the 2023 season were Miami Half Marathon, USAT Nationals Olympic Distance Triathlon and North Carolina 70.3.

What are your BIG goals?
My big goals are to continue to improve my performance and to become more consistent in my races.  In the past I had a lot of peaks and valleys.

What were some of your biggest improvements in performance for each of the following? Swim, Bike, Run, and Nutrition/Health. Please include any Personal Records and Goals achieved.

  1. I have improved my swimming – Swim Miami 5K improved by 13 minutes, from 1:48 to 1:35.
  2. My run is becoming more consistent.  My best time in the Miami Half Marathon was back in 2017 @ 1:54.  This year I ran the Miami Half Marathon @ 1:52.
  3. I had a PR @ USAT Nationals Olympic Distance Triathlon From 3:51 in 2018 to 3:38 this year.
  4. I have established PRs in my 400yds and 200yds Swim Tests.
  5. I have established PRs in the Mile Run Test to 6:22/ mile and the 5K @ 22:53 (MIA 5K).
  6. A big change in Nutrition. I am more conscious about what I eat. I look at the ingredients in foods I buy at the supermarket and look for foods that are organic and/or natural without preservatives.  This is something that is constantly drilled into us by coaches in the team. Food is energy and needs to be clean!

Tell me about your successes so far!
I have had successes in all disciplines of Triathlon.  My run and swim have improved and are more consistent.  As I have been able to improve my swim and run without affecting my Cycling.

Name 2 or 3 things that have made the biggest difference in your journey:

  1. One of the biggest changes in my approach to training is that now I train for overall Fitness.  I look to improve fitness level for races rather that train for the specific characteristics of a race.
  2. I have a better planning methodology for race goals and objectives by creating a race plan that addresses performance and nutrition.
  3. My approach to training is more structured.  I look to meet the training objectives which include adherence to power, pace, heart rate, cadence, form and/or technique.

What excites you the most about being involved in triathlon?
What I like most about Triathlon is the diversity of sports disciplines.  I can stay fit in each sport.  Because of Triathlon training, I feel confident to participate in swimming, running or cycling events individually.  And of course compete in triathlons which is becoming a mainstream sport.  We see the youth adopting the sport and competing.

What would you say to another person who was on the fence about joining our training program?
Full Circle offers a complete program which addresses structured training, fitness, health and well being. This program leads to improved performance and a healthier lifestyle.

It has transformed me in that I train smarter and not harder.

The Full Circle program has transformed me in that I really do not look at how much I train, but how well I train.   This has led to measurable improvement in tests and competitions.

Someone trying to become a better athlete in a group environment with other athletes that have similar goals and objectives, should seriously consider the program.

Coaching on Form and Technique are essential to realize significant improvement.  The Full Circle program incorporates filming and analysis, so the athlete is aware of what needs to be corrected.  Additionally, the program promotes taking caring of our bodies through nutrition, mobility training and strengthening exercises.   If we take care of our body, it will perform better with the appropriate training and coaching.

Do you want results like these? My 16-week Triathlon Transformation Training Program is designed to help you get faster for your next triathlon in less time than other training programs.

The Triathlon Transformation Program focuses on you as an individual; your form, technique, strength, fueling, and mindset. Through video analysis, metabolic testing, holistic lifestyle coaching, and a supportive community, you will achieve all your triathlon dreams and goals to get faster in less time.

If you want to show up confidently at the start of your next race — swimming, biking, and running past the competition, sprinting across the finish line with arms overhead, knowing you nailed it — then this program is for you.

1st Place in his 1st Olympic distance Triathlon- Joseph Brittain, Rockstar Beginner Triathlete

1st Place in his 1st Olympic distance Triathlon- Joseph Brittain, Rockstar Beginner Triathlete

Coaches Notes:

I am so impressed with Joseph and his triathlon journey over the last 8 weeks.

We met at the Ride on Ryan Sprint Triathlon in Savannah, Georgia, which, as you all know, is the race I am part of to honor the memory of my deceased boyfriend, Ryan Williams.

Every year we get beginner triathletes to cross the line, falling in love with triathlon just as much as Ryan did. This year, I offered a raffle for my eight-week beginner tri program, and Joseph won!

He did all the training, asking questions and showing up at the coach’s calls to reach his goal of an Olympic Distance Triathlon.

Not only did he complete it, but he got 1st in his age group!

WOO HOO! Ryan would be so proud as am I and Full Circle Coach Ollie Garcia, who is head coach for the beginner tri group program!

You are a Rockstar Triathlete, Joseph- I can’t wait to see what’s next for your triathlon journey!

What is your age?
29

What is your profession?:
Civil Engineer in Savannah, GA

Why did you choose FCC to help you on your triathlon/health and wellness journey?
I met Coach Erinne and Coach Ollie at the Ride on Ryan Sprint Triathlon in Savannah in May 2023.  They were very easy to talk to and even gave me a few tips before the race. I had done a couple sprints, but I knew I wanted to complete my first Olympic triathlon ASAP. I jumped at the opportunity to be able to work with Coach Erinne and Coach Ollie when I saw Full Circle was offering an 8-week training program at the charity silent auction.

What is/ was your “A” race for this season?
Game on! St. Augustine Olympic Triathlon last week. Hopefully, I’ll set a new “A” race in stone soon.

What are your BIG goals?
I try to not get too far ahead of myself, but I certainly want to complete my first marathon and first half ironman soon.

Tell me about your successes so far!
I started taking my fitness journey seriously in January 2022. I was initially trying to lose weight and get in better shape for an upcoming ski trip.  That is when I signed up for my first 5K race since high school. I really enjoyed the challenge and competition and have been progressively taking on bigger and bigger challenges ever since.

It’s been very rewarding to be able to surprise myself each step along the way so far.  Losing 20 pounds (190 lbs to 170 lbs) is just icing on the cake so to speak.

What were some of your biggest improvements in performance for each of the following? Swim, Bike, Run, and Nutrition/Health.
Swim:  In my first couple sprints, I would swap to breaststroke to get my heart rate down and sight.  In my recent Olympic, I had better pacing / breathing, and swam in freestyle the whole time with no problem. My sighting is still a work in progress.

Bike: Thanks to the training plan and making the jump from a road bike to a triathlon bike.  I went from an 18.7 mph pace in my Sprint race in May 2023 to a 21-mph pace in my Olympic race in July 2023.

Run: I’ve made significant improvements since 2022 in the 5K (24:32 to 19:55) and 10K (± 50 min to 42:02). I also completed my first Half Marathon in January 2023 (1 hour 38 minutes) and completed my longest run ever during a 3-hour timed race in April 2023 (21 miles).

Name 2 or 3 things that have made the biggest difference in your journey:

  1. Following the Training Plan. Spending as much time swimming and biking, as I did running.
  2. Asking questions. I’m not too ashamed to admit that I didn’t know I needed to be cleaning my bike chain regularly.
  3. Group Training / Accountability.

What excites you the most about being involved in running/triathlon?
Being relatively new to the sport, I am excited about continuing to make connections with other people with similar goals or taking on similar challenges. I’m also excited about continuing to progress in my fitness journey and hopefully continuing to be surprised by what I’m able to accomplish.

What would you say to another person who was on the fence about joining our training program?
It was great being able to ask questions and get suggestions from someone with a lot of experience in Triathlon and Coaching. Coach Erinne and Coach Ollie really challenged me and some of the workouts were harder than I was used to, but it gave me a lot of confidence to know that I was prepared on race day.

Nutrition the key to Rockstar Claudia Coronado’s Running Success!

Rockstar: Claudia Coronado

Coaches Notes:

So proud of Claudia for completing her Mexico City 13.1. This is a challenging course at altitude and with hills. We first had to overcome some strength and injury setbacks. Runner’s knee (a common running injury) came up in training, which can happen when the volume of running is ramped up too quickly without the proper leg and core strength.

We backed off of training volume a few weeks, and implemented my Strength and Mobility Essentials strength training protocol for running, as well as video analysis to fine-tune her running technique.

This, combined with increasing her calories from quality nutrition in training and racing helped her achieve the goal of completing the race!!

Way to go, Claudia! You are a Rockstar Runner- Now let’s get that sprint tri in before the end of 2023! You got this!

What is your age?
51

What is your profession?:
Consultant for the hospitality Industry.

Why did you choose FCC to help you on your triathlon/health and wellness journey?
To improve my health and performance in sports, especially running. I realized it is always better to train with a team, and Full Circle Coaching is a great one.

What is/ was your “A” race for this season?
Mexico City Half Marathon, a few weeks ago.

What are your BIG goals?
Get faster in my running.
Space Coast 10 Mile Race in Cape Canaveral in December.
Improve my swimming, biking, and running technique and do my first Sprint triathlon.

Tell me about your successes so far!
My biggest success is to believe in myself, and THANK’S to you (Coach Erinne) and Coach Ollie I’m more confident and know that I can do whatever I can imagine!!! Running the Mexico Half Marathon was a great accomplishment because of all the difficulties that this race has. Running at altitude and on hills really challenged me.

What were some of your biggest improvements in performance in your running?
I learned a better way to run in all aspects. I improved my 1-mile run test from 10:59 to a 9:55, a big Personal Record (PR) for me.

Name 2 or 3 things that have made the biggest difference in your journey:

  1. Training with the Full Circle Coaching Team.
  2. A personalized plan to train for this race.
  3. Holistic approach: Information received not just about the sports but health & nutrition.

What excites you the most about being involved in running/triathlon?
To have the discipline to be able to accomplish my goals. I feel happy and strong when I run; it is my own time.

What would you say to another person who was on the fence about joining our training program?
Will be the best decision ever, you need to train with a team, this will give you more confidence, you will improve in each sport.  You will have the sense of being part of a big family !!!!

Rockstar Carmen Lottie

Rockstar: Carmen Lottie

Coaches Notes:

Carmen is a true Rockstar Triathlete. She shows up every day and does the work!

Kaizen- meaning constant steady improvement -is one of the core principles of Full Circle Coaching and Carmen epitomizes this principle.

First, she looks the part and has a matching helmet and shoes for every training session. 2nd, she gives her all at every single training session and race. She is a massive inspiration for the whole team and everyone’s biggest cheerleader. #rd, she is not finished yet! she is striving for better faster and more with every race goal she sets and I am so excited for the next PR (Personal Record) at NC 70.3

Thanks so much for choosing Full Circle Coaching for your triathlon journey and bringing your husband, Jose Alvarez, along for the ride!

You both are an incredible team and asset to the Full Circle Coaching Tribe!

What is your age?
62 years young

What is your profession?:
Retired

Why did you choose FCC to help you on your triathlon/health and wellness journey?
I joined FCC in February of 2022. I am the type of person that needs one-on-one coaching and I wanted to work with head coach Erinne Guthrie. I had seen her throughout the years in local triathlon clinics here in Miami. I knew how knowledgeable a triathlon coach she was and I had no doubt in my mind that I would be in good hands. Once I joined FCC, I learned that not only did I have head coach Erinne as my coach but also three other triathlon specific coaches! Coaches Ollie, Dennis and Nico are very knowledgeable and they are actively competing as well. That is priceless!

What is your “A” race for this season?
I have two “A” races left this year. Ironman 70.3 North Carolina 10/21/2023, and Clash Daytona Long Course AquaBike 57.2, 12/5/2023, qualifier for Team USA Long Course Championship.

What are your BIG goals?
Swim at less than 2:00/100, Bike at an average of 20 mph, and Run at less than 10:30/mile for a 5k. Qualify for Team USA Long Course AquaBike ITU Worlds in Townsville, Australia, 2024

Tell me about your successes so far!

In 2023, I have completed the Miami Half Marathon, Clash Miami Sprint Distance, Ironman 70.3 Puerto Rico, Swim Miami 2023, the 305 Triathlon Sprint Distance (getting 2nd place in my AG F60-64 in the State of Florida), the 2023 USAT Nationals Olympic Distance in Milwaukee.

What were some of your biggest improvements in performance for each of the following? Swim, Bike, Run, and Nutrition/Health. Please include any Personal Records and Goals achieved.

I swam 500 yards at 2:07/100 and ran a 5k at 10:14/ mile at the 305 Triathlon 2023. I did the same race back in 2022 swimming the 500 yards at 2:26/100 and running the 5k at 11:11/mile. That’s a huge improvement!

Now, looking at the USAT Nationals, I just completed the Olympic Distance in Milwaukee on 8/5/2023 in 3:31, beating my USAT Nationals 2018 in Cleveland, OH, which was 3:48. I did this dealing with an Achilles Tendon Injury.

I had been told to hold back during the run and even doing that I was able to cut my time down by 17 minutes!

One of my major improvements while being coached by FCC is how calm I am in Open Water. I met a fellow Athlete in Nationals 2023. She was freaking out about the swim. I realized that was me prior to joining FCC. I almost drown at age 7 but I did not want that experience to stop me from doing Triathlons. Coach Erinne and Coach Ollie have taught me to feel comfortable in the Ocean and, by embracing it, I am now calmer and at peace when doing Open Water Swimming. I am one step closer to reaching my goal.

Name 2 or 3 things that have made the biggest difference in your journey:

  1. I am improving my technique in all three sports.
  2. I am training with great coaches and teammates that encourage me to feel good about myself.
  3. I know how to plan my race, pacing myself and eating the right nutrition not only during but prior to the actual race.
  4. I know how to recover and take care of my body.
  5. I have regained the confidence that I had lost.

What excites you the most about being involved in triathlon?
Feeling great about my accomplishments no matter how hard it may be and being able to share it with my husband Jose and my Triathlon family. It is me against me!

What would you say to another person who was on the fence about joining our training program?
Wait no longer! Join us and find out for yourself what a great triathlon team FCC is.

Rockstar Alexandre Tagliari De Rosis

Rockstar: Alexandre Tagliari De Rosis

Coaches Notes:

I am super incredibly proud of Alex! Last year in 2022, he followed my Triathlon Transformation program and achieved all the goals he set for himself. He lost 70 pounds and completed a 70.3. The he disappeared, stopped training, and went back to eating poorly. He lost fitness and gained back some of the weight.

This year he came back with a new goal. To make this a lifestyle and not a diet plan to follow temporarily. He had a new goal of a sub 7 hour 70.3, and lose all the weight he gained back. Guess what? He did it! Eagleman 70.3 in 6:57 and lost a total of 110 pounds.

And he has already set his new goals for a sub 6 hour 70.3 and then a full Ironman in 2025. Way to go Alex, you are a true Rockstar Triathlete and a great example of never giving up and anything is truly possible! Thanks for choosing Full Circle Coaching!

What is your age?
45

What is your profession?:
I graduated as a Business Administrator, always worked in the IT market, and for 16 years ran an IT integrator company in Brazil.

Why did you choose FCC to help you on your triathlon/health and wellness journey?
I met coach Erinne 2 years ago when I weighed a lot more but was ready and willing to do a half IM in 6 months. She supported me and made me confident I would accomplish my goal with the Triathlon Transformation program.

What is your “A” race for this season?
IM 70.3 North Carolina in October 2023

What are your BIG goals?
Reduce my weight to under 200 lbs. (I was 330 lbs. and now I am at 220 lbs.) and finish a 70.3 in under 6 hours in 2024, then a Full Ironman in 2025.

Tell me about your successes so far!
It has been a long journey. It took a long time for me to understand I should trust the process, make better decisions in the short term to get benefits on the long term. I faltered after my first race and, regained weight, stopped training and it was hard to come back. But here I am, much more healthy and prepared not only for the Triathlon, but for life. The improvements I am experiencing in my life are amazing after making this commitment to myself.

What were some of your biggest improvements in performance for each of the following? Swim, Bike, Run, and Nutrition/Health. Please include any Personal Records and Goals achieved.

I lost 110 lbs, reduced my body fat from 40% to 20%, achieved a sub 7 hour 70.3 last weekend at Eagleman 70.3, and I am feeling better than ever.

Name 2 or 3 things that have made the biggest difference in your journey:

  1. Trust the process.
  2. Understand the time of the changes and how long it takes to the results to appear.
  3. Keep focus and persistence.

What excites you the most about being involved in triathlon?
The challenge of 3 sports together and the competition against myself to break my own limits.

What would you say to another person who was on the fence about joining our training program?
Jump in! Start now, as you are, with the tools you have and keep pushing. Anything is possible, believe!

Let Your Imagination Run Wild for Your Bucket List

Let Your Imagination Run Wild for Your Bucket List

All right, friends! I have a super-fun project for you today.

Today, you’re going to work on your bucket list. If you’ve gotten lost since making New Year’s resolutions, or if you never prioritize yourself, or if you’ve forgotten the importance of dreaming big, then this is going to make your day.

The phrase “bucket list” has become widely known to illustrate things you want to do at least once before you die – before you kick “the bucket.”

Some bucket lists might include parachuting out of an airplane… watching the sunset in Hawaii… Completing an Ironman …….. or running the Boston Marathon…

There are no limits. No rules. Whatever you want!

So, let’s do it. Grab a pen and paper, or type it on your laptop or phone in the notes section right now. There’s no minimum or maximum number of items on your bucket list. Just put down anything you’d like to do at least once in your lifetime.

Dream big.

Let your mind – and heart – wander in all sorts of directions. Places to go, yes, but also … people to see, projects to build, events to complete, or emotions to experience… You don’t have to be “realistic,” either. If you want to be Princess Leia for a day, write it down!

It’s all up to you.

When you finish the first “brainstorm” style list, maybe go back and do a light edit. There might be some redundancies or potential groupings. There might be ACTUAL WAYS to do some of the fantastical stuff (like seeing Coldplay or riding a rollercoaster at a theme park).

But don’t judge yourself.

Indulge yourself. Remember, your bucket list is all about YOU. Nobody gets to say, “You can’t do THAT,” about anything on it.

Then, try to get specific. It’s one thing to say, “I want to see Paris.”

Great!

Let’s go deeper. “I want to see Paris… and walk into that bakery shop I saw in a movie… and smell the pastries… and tear open the fresh croissant.”

Have fun with this. Feed your sense of adventure and of play. Recall what you dreamt of as a child and consider if you still have those aspirations. What will bring you joy?

Are there items on your list that you want to pursue now? Or are you happy to leave most of them for “someday” …?

Both can be nice. You decide!

If you are reading this from me- Completing an Ironman or finishing in a specific time, Completing a sprint or Olympic distance Triathlon, Losing 50 lb’s to get healthy, or Getting faster will be on your list.

If that is the case, I’d love to help you on your journey to check that item off your Bucket List!

Use this link to fill out the application for my Triathlon Transformation Program, and then follow the prompt to set up your call with me.

Rockstar: Willy Larreal

Rockstar: Willy Larreal

Coaches Notes:

Willy dreams of qualifying for Kona, and I’m so psyched to be on this journey with him. When you are already fast and have lots of experience, it is MORE difficult to get even faster.

He has done a 12:30 IM Florida and a 11:15 IM Texas.

My system of getting someone faster is very contradictive to the mainstream way of coaching for the Ironman, and frankly, many athletes are afraid to go shorter and get faster, but that is my secret sauce, and guess what? It’s working.

With two PRs (Personal Records) already in the books since we started- we are headed to the next one at Ironman Maryland for a qualifying spot for Kona- Sub 10 is the goal!

Willy has had to get a bit out of his comfort zone by doing more testing and a different kind of training than before, as well as communicating more with his coach- Me! These are all pieces to a giant puzzle to his ultimate success- Ironman World Championships- Let’s do this, Willy!

Nicole just graduated from my 8 week Beginner Tri Program. This is an ideal program to test the waters of the sport of triathlon and see if you are a fit.

I, of course, know that everyone is a fit if they choose to be. If you want to do I triathlon, I will get you there. I guarantee it. But sometimes a new athlete is not sure and this program gets you there safely and builds confidence in all the areas of the race.

Nicole’s success at her first Sprint Triathlon was because she really showed up- for the daily training (30-45 min/ day only) and the weekly coach calls. All while being a busy Mom of 3, wife, and Professional.

She invested in herself, and now I am happy to say she is joining us for the 16 Week Triathlon Transformation program for her next race goal- An Olympic Distance Triathlon.

Please see her notes below about how every other aspect of her life improved by joining our program.

Way to go, Nicole! Super excited for the next stage of the journey- Thanks again for choosing Full Circle Coaching!

What is your age?
47 years old.

What is your profession?:
Positive Psychology Consultant. Corporate trainer. Speaker. Author. Life Coach.

I help organizations build an engaged workforce and increase profitability by activating the sense of purpose and emotional well-being of their leaders, managers, and team members.

Why did you choose FCC to help you on your triathlon/health and wellness journey?
I love their holistic approach to training. Not only learning about each one of the sports but also learning about nutrition and mindfulness. I also wanted to join a community, meet people and make new friends as I recently moved to this country.

PD. Coach Erinne got me at “Yes! You can definitely do a triathlon with your mountain bike.”

What is your “A” race for this season?
I joined the beginner’s program to complete the Integrity Multisport Sprint Triathlon.

What are your BIG goals?

  • Be healthy
  • Enjoy nature
  • Make friends
  • Have fun
  • Complete an Olympic triathlon

Tell me about your successes so far!

  • I completed my first-ever sprint triathlon!
  • Learning to swim in open water.
  • Pd. Also, managing to get in the pool at 5:00 am. The rest of the day was a piece of cake.

What were some of your biggest improvements in performance for each of the following? Swim, Bike, Run, and Nutrition/Health. Please include any Personal Records and Goals achieved.
A nice side effect of the training program was that I could focus and concentrate on writing. My creativity and willpower improved in all areas of my life. I sleep better, have more energy, and feel calmer. My stress levels were reduced. I complete most of my to-do’s when I train.

The most significant improvement for me was in swimming. This is a sport that I have yet to formally practice and learn the technique.

The bicycle was where I felt most comfortable. This is my favorite sport. I knew there was only so much I could do on a mountain bike. So instead of worrying about everyone riding faster than me, I enjoyed the rides and the sunrises.

I ran the 5K under 30 minutes for the first time in many years.

Name 2 or 3 things that have made the biggest difference in your journey:

  1. Coach Ollie with her patience, attention to detail, kindness, and sense of humor.
  2. Being part of a friendly and welcoming community.
  3. Knowing that there was a time and place to show up and train. Accountability.

What excites you the most about being involved in triathlon?

  • Spending time in nature.
  • Being surrounded by inspiring teammates.
  • Witnessing my own progress and the amazing feeling that comes with accomplishing goals.

What would you say to another person who was on the fence about joining our training program?
Give yourself permission to have this experience. The FCC coaches will meet you where you are. The worst thing that can happen is that you fall in love with the sport.

What is your age?
I will be 60 this year

What is your profession?:
I am an engineer

Why did you choose FCC to help you on your triathlon/health and wellness journey?
Initially, it was to train for a triathlon race following a program with a Coach. After two years, the Full Circle Coaching program is excellent, and training with a team makes a big difference.

What is your “A” race for this season?
This year it was Victoria 70.3 which I finished last weekend.  My plan is to do another 70.3 before the end of the year but I have not decided which one yet.

What are your BIG goals?
For the rest of the year my plan is to work reducing my times even further in all the sports before doing another 70.3.

Tell me about your successes so far!
I came two years ago to train for an Olympic Race since it was a challenge; now I am very comfortable in the 70.3 distance; all that came with hard work, a lot of learning, and the privilege to train with excellent coaches and athletes.

What were some of your biggest improvements in performance for each of the following? Swim, Bike, Run, and Nutrition/Health. Please include any Personal Records and Goals achieved.
When I came 2 years ago I realized I needed to learn how to swim, bike and run properly to be able to compete; now I am a better swimmer, a stronger rider and I run with good technique, but there is still a lot to improve. In the swim I did the 5km Miami swim this year, In bike, despite a challenging course in Victoria, I was able to do all the climbs and maintain my planned power all the race. The run is still pending work to do to get to the point I want to be.

Name 2 or 3 things that have made the biggest difference in your journey:

  1. Team
  2. Nutrition
  3. Coaches

What excites you the most about being involved in triathlon?
It is a great sport; you are always competing against yourself and you are surrounded by excellent people with similar goals.

What would you say to another person who was on the fence about joining our training program?
Just do it! You will learn a lot about yourself, meet great people, improve your physical and mental health, and have a lot of fun.

Rockstar: Mason Fruit

Coaches Notes:

Mason called me up, telling me he had three 70.3 races on the books for 2023, and I knew my 16-week Triathlon Transformation program would be perfect for getting him across the finish line faster than ever in the first one (Florida 70.3 in Panama City), and a rinse and repeat program for the next two.

If you have been following me, you know how much I encourage my athletes to get strong and fast before going long.

That is precisely what we did with Mason. First, we did all of his assessments and testing since he is not a local athlete. This is how I get to know you as an athlete and correct your technique and teach you HOW to TRAIN using your individual cardiovascular testing and training zones. We use the information from the assessments to create your training program. We also create your Map to your A Race with shorter distance races to get good at racing!.

We started first with racing a sprint triathlon, then an International, and we also included Swim Miami – both the 800 and 1-mile races, in which he swam the mile faster than the 800 after getting a good warm-up in on the 800!

Racing in these shorter distance races is essential to practice the skills and drills and pacing he was doing in training in race settings.

The result for the first 70.3 is a 6:09

So proud of your success so far, Mason! Let’s get even faster and stronger for the next two!

What is your age?
26

What is your profession?:
Electrical Engineer

Why did you choose FCC to help you on your triathlon/health and wellness journey?
I wanted results faster than I was seeing training on my own. I am new to the sport, don’t know too many people in the community, and was looking for a coach. At the right time, I went to Coach Errine’s clinic before Miami Man last year. I liked her holistic approach to training and triathlon.

What is your “A” race for this season?
I have 3 “A” races – IM 70.3 in Gulf Coast, 70.3 in Santa Cruz, and 70.3 Arizona

What are your BIG goals?
I would love to start finishing in the top 10% in my age group at 70.3s. Still, a long way to go – but I’m having a lot of fun and making progress. Now want to keep it going!

Tell me about your successes so far!
IM 70.3 Gulf Coast went great for me. I was very happy with both my time and how I felt.

What were some of your biggest improvements in performance for each of the following? Swim, Bike, Run, and Nutrition/Health. Please include any Personal Records and Goals achieved.
Swim – I learned how. I really didn’t know proper technique, body position, stroke mechanics, breathing, head position, hip rotation. If you don’t believe me, ask Coach Errine I’m sure she can attest I truly was at the beginner level 😉
Bike – I gained a lot of confidence riding outside and fueling without stopping. Before training with FC, I would stop every 10ish miles to drink and fuel.
Run – I cut ~1min/mile off of my 10k pace/13.1 pace over Olympic and 70.3 distances (and have the race numbers to prove it!)
Nutrition – I added some calories to my water bottle and made a nutrition plan that I trained with. This worked wonders – no “ick” during the races!

Name 2 or 3 things that have made the biggest difference in your journey:

1. Learning how to swim properly
2. Knowing I’m able to improve at a fast rate
3. Staying consistent

What excites you the most about being involved in triathlon?
Having a competitive outlet that is healthy, on my own time, builds character, and allows me to travel around going to events.

What would you say to another person who was on the fence about joining our training program?
You’ll surprise yourself with how quickly it will help you get the results you are capable of! And you will get 100% of the support you need from a great group!
