Recipe: What is in my Super Green Smoothie?
I drink a super green smoothie almost every day as a mid-morning or afternoon snack.
It makes a huge difference in my recovery and energy after training, not to mention all the good greens, fats and antioxidants I am getting.
You may notice there are not as many fruits in my smoothie. I choose to limit my sugar intake daily, even from fruit, to help stabilize my blood sugar. If I’m feeling low on energy, I will throw in a banana or berries to get some extra carbs from a healthy source. I prefer to get my carbohydrates more from vegetables.
Since I have done this, my energy stays consistent throughout the day and I don’t have highs and lows in my blood sugar which helps stabilize my energy and mood.
I check the labels of every product I use and look for products that have the fewest number of ingredients to limit my toxins as much as possible. If I don’t know what an ingredient is, I look it up and learn about it. Most of the time its a toxic filler or emulsifier I just don’t need to be consuming.
Protein powders are the worst. Most are filled with “crapola.”
You can see the protein powder I use below is from grass fed goats and has 3 ingredients. I just switched to a new product called CLEAN protein from the same company that has only 1 ingredient.
I stay away from plant proteins that leave me bloated and gassy. Never use soy protein because of the terrible absorption rate and you need twice as much as whey to get what you need.
Soy is also one of the most genetically modified foods in the USA. Feel free to add almond butter or any other fun healthy ingredients you may like.
