How to Make Your Dreams Come True

Everybody has a dream.

That’s the easy part – to want something so bad that it seems like no one else can possibly understand. To think that hope and desire are enough.

But it’s a tiny percentage of people who follow through on their desires and actually create an extraordinary outcome for themselves.

So, if you’re pondering a desired outcome, first decide if this dream is something you want in a realistic sense.

Do you want to run a marathon or finish a triathlon, or does it sound nice?

Some dreams are just nice fantasies – which is fine.

But the dreams you want to actually bring to life? Those require planning, action, discipline and consistency.

You really can have the life you want – if you work for it. Here’s how.

  1. Be specific.
  2. Be realistic.
  3. Be on fire with passion and dedication.
  4. Create a plan and start acting on it.
  5. Include short-term and long-term goals.
  6. Review progress and be flexible as you work through the plan.
  7. Stay confident and consistent.

These principles apply to healthy living, as well. That’s why…

I’m giving away my proven step-by-step process in my FREE training, The Ultimate Guide to Triathlon Success: From Start to Finish Line, that every Triathlete must have to:

  • Get FASTER
  • Increase POWER
  • Gain SPEED
  • Avoid Injury
  • Sidestep Burnout

Join me on Thursday, August 17th at 12pm EST where I’ll cover:

  • What it takes to make your dream a reality.
(Hint: It’s different from what you think and is much simpler than you know.)
  • The importance of evaluations and testing.
If you are not assessing, you are guessing. Knowing your baseline in every aspect of the sport is critical to becoming a successful Triathlete. This allows for creating an individualized plan of action that leads to guaranteed success.
  • The exact process in my 16-Week Training Intensive that guarantees success across your next finish line – no matter the distance.

Let Your Imagination Run Wild for Your Bucket List

Let Your Imagination Run Wild for Your Bucket List

All right, friends! I have a super-fun project for you today.

Today, you’re going to work on your bucket list. If you’ve gotten lost since making New Year’s resolutions, or if you never prioritize yourself, or if you’ve forgotten the importance of dreaming big, then this is going to make your day.

The phrase “bucket list” has become widely known to illustrate things you want to do at least once before you die – before you kick “the bucket.”

Some bucket lists might include parachuting out of an airplane… watching the sunset in Hawaii… Completing an Ironman …….. or running the Boston Marathon…

There are no limits. No rules. Whatever you want!

So, let’s do it. Grab a pen and paper, or type it on your laptop or phone in the notes section right now. There’s no minimum or maximum number of items on your bucket list. Just put down anything you’d like to do at least once in your lifetime.

Dream big.

Let your mind – and heart – wander in all sorts of directions. Places to go, yes, but also … people to see, projects to build, events to complete, or emotions to experience… You don’t have to be “realistic,” either. If you want to be Princess Leia for a day, write it down!

It’s all up to you.

When you finish the first “brainstorm” style list, maybe go back and do a light edit. There might be some redundancies or potential groupings. There might be ACTUAL WAYS to do some of the fantastical stuff (like seeing Coldplay or riding a rollercoaster at a theme park).

But don’t judge yourself.

Indulge yourself. Remember, your bucket list is all about YOU. Nobody gets to say, “You can’t do THAT,” about anything on it.

Then, try to get specific. It’s one thing to say, “I want to see Paris.”

Great!

Let’s go deeper. “I want to see Paris… and walk into that bakery shop I saw in a movie… and smell the pastries… and tear open the fresh croissant.”

Have fun with this. Feed your sense of adventure and of play. Recall what you dreamt of as a child and consider if you still have those aspirations. What will bring you joy?

Are there items on your list that you want to pursue now? Or are you happy to leave most of them for “someday” …?

Both can be nice. You decide!

If you are reading this from me- Completing an Ironman or finishing in a specific time, Completing a sprint or Olympic distance Triathlon, Losing 50 lb’s to get healthy, or Getting faster will be on your list.

If that is the case, I’d love to help you on your journey to check that item off your Bucket List!

Use this link to fill out the application for my Triathlon Transformation Program, and then follow the prompt to set up your call with me.

How Do You Challenge Yourself to Grow?

How Do You Challenge Yourself to Grow?

For any living thing, growth is life itself.

Humans have an innate need to grow, improve and learn. There’s nothing wrong with it – it’s only natural. It’s one of the 6 Human Needs Tony Robbins says drive us all.

Think about your own desire for growth. Where does it show itself? Does it drive you to good things – only or mostly? Have you come upon any danger signs indicating you’re trying for too much too soon?

Tony says that if you’re always pursuing growth, you’ll avoid boredom and attachment to people or things. You might thrive by pushing boundaries but want to move on too quickly from relationships. He recommends diving deep to master new topics or skills and remembering the importance of emotional and spiritual growth through self-examination and meditation.

I know many people who want to grow so much that they pursue it obsessively, neglecting other aspects of life – other human needs – that will bring them balance, peace, and lasting success.

We can always chase “the next thing” – and never really appreciate what we have.

But if we cling too tightly to what we have, we’re blocking our human nature from growing.

It all comes down to choices and balance. That’s a tricky dance for everyone. It is a core principle of my life and of Full Circle Coaching.

The solution is rooted in the same healthy habits that sustain us all and improve our chances of healthy growth: regular exercise; healthy diets; stress management; quality sleep.

You can’t grow without them.

There is still time to join my Nutrition Essentials Program where we dive deep into all of these topics and so more to help you keep growing. Click here for more info!

Set the Bar High for Yourself While Managing Your Expectations

Set the bar high for yourself while managing your expectations

Setting big, scary goals is exciting.

But it’s also quickly disheartening too many times when we fail to support our efforts by managing expectations. Most of the time, the problem isn’t that the goal is too big or grandiose. It’s that we’re not setting reasonable expectations about reaching it.

Here’s an example that’s super-oversimplified to make the point.

Suppose you’re 25 pounds overweight and decide to lose that much through exercise and eating right.

Is that a reasonable goal?

Absolutely!

Now, let’s say you want to lose 25 pounds in two weeks.

Is that a realistic expectation?

Absolutely not!

And yet I hear from people all the time who want to do something like this in such a tight timeframe.

Look, expectations are the mother of all disappointments. But setting goals and setting on a well-charted course to reach them?

Well, that’s how you get where you want to go.

Don’t change the desired destination. Just pick the right path.

I’ve been hosting my FREE 4-Day Nutrition Reset Challenge this week which is a GREAT way to start on the right path to healthier nutrition choices and ultimately a healthier you.

If you’re ready to kickstart your transformation journey it’s not too late to join! Click this link to sign up, and you can even watch all the Facebook LIVES I’ve done this week about the program right inside our Triathlon Obsessed Facebook group.

Success is a Decision

Success is a Decision

Some people say, “Success is a journey, not a destination.” And while I agree with that, I also think success is something else.

Success is a decision.

That’s right. In building healthy habits, in achieving goals, in work… whatever: We choose our own results.

I’m often asked how to succeed at something – like, losing a certain amount of weight, for example. The solution is simple: Decide you’re going to do it.

Here’s what I mean – or, rather, what I don’t mean.

  • You don’t get what you want by waiting for it to happen magically
  • You don’t get what you want by hoping someone gives it to you
  • You don’t get what you want by quitting when it gets difficult or takes longer than you’d like

Instead, success comes from:

  1. Understanding your motivations
  2. Doing your research and choosing appropriate goals
  3. And then committing – really committing – to do whatever is necessary

That’s what successful people do. They don’t rely on talent, hope, or good luck, although those things can play a part.

But even the rare few who are talented, hopeful, and lucky also plan smartly and work hard.

They adopt a champion’s mindset and learn to stay above their emotions while accepting that doubt and missteps are part of the deal.

And they build consistent habits that often take time to pay off.

Success isn’t just ONE decision but a constant effort to make the next positive choice.

If you can say yes, then you’re halfway there.

What’s Not Your Problem

What’s Not Your Problem

Have you ever noticed that anytime you do something, there’s somebody who doesn’t like it?

  • You get a new haircut – and someone tells you it’s too short.
  • You buy a new car – and someone says you paid too much.
  • You start exercising and eating clean – and someone starts acting out because you’re “making” them feel uncomfortable.

It might just be human nature. Heck, it might just be NATURE, period, — because for every action, there’s an equal and opposite reaction, if I remember high school right.

So, if that’s the case, how much should you care about your personal changes making someone else uncomfortable?

Should you care …

  • A lot?
  • A little?
  • Or not one bit?

I bet you can guess my answer!

Once you accept that there will always be someone who doesn’t like what you do, it’s SO LIBERATING because you can let go of any element of judgment or condemnation or, well, your OWN discomfort!

If you’re making changes that truly affect others, then maybe they have a say-so in the matter.

But regarding the bottom line of your health, fitness, and dreams…

There is one opinion that matters: YOURS!

What Are Your Daily Non-Negotiables?

What Are Your Daily Non-Negotiables?

Sometimes the day gets away from you so fast.

You start with a list of good intentions, and then, bam! Work, family, traffic… all the stresses of daily life barge in, and suddenly that trainer ride or run is no longer on the calendar, and you’re tempted to think about hitting a drive-through window or, even worse- skip lunch altogether.

Well, this has happened to me less often since I came up with my Sacred 3. That’s my list of three non-negotiables, my small daily habits, no matter how busy I get.

You should try it! It’s super simple to do. Just take a few minutes to write down all the daily habits you currently do or wish you were doing. Then narrow it down to 1 to 3 items you can commit to without fail.

Be real with this. Remember how crazy things got last week… Or that day last month… Is something like that going to happen again?

Probably! Because life happens, despite our best intentions.

Here are some possible non-negotiables to consider.

  • Drinking 1/2 of your body weight in ounces of water.
  • Getting outside for 15 minutes.
  • Closing your eyes and taking deep breaths for one minute.
  • Eating five servings of fruits and vegetables.
  • Moving your body with intention daily, even if it’s just a 15-minute walk around the block. (Remember, we’re going for the bare minimum here, so this isn’t a place to list “I will work out every day for 1 hour.”)
  • Taking a moment to give thanks and write it down!

Does this list get you thinking in the right direction? The point isn’t to tell you that these should make up your own Sacred 3. That’s up to you!

Ever since I made my own list and then set about guarding it with a passion, I find that I have fewer days where I feel overwhelmed, like my life is out of control.

Every day that I can stay on track – even if it’s just with these three little things – is another day I’m not giving up, not falling back to old habits, and not despairing.

It’s a powerful tactic to shut out the noise and the stress of the rest of the world!

Daily Habits Lead to Big Outcomes

Daily Habits Lead to Big Outcomes

We’ve all heard the old saying, “A journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step.”

But why is it so hard to remember when pursuing positive health changes, big goals, and outcomes?

Maybe because marketers brainwash us to believe in quick, miracle fixes for everything – instant weight loss, spot reductions, and more.

Sorry, but ancient sayings persist for a good reason: This one is true!

So, the secret to making big, positive changes isn’t instant gratification.

It’s making small changes to create new daily habits.

The philosophy made a huge best-seller in the book “Atomic Habits,” which suggests we make a molecular change at first, then add to it more and more, and repeat this until a new, positive behavior becomes ingrained in our life.

It’s the age old idea of delayed gratification: If I make this small sacrifice today, I will be really, really happy about it later.

  • If I save 10 percent of my paycheck, I’ll have money when it’s time to retire.
  • If I reduce my number of junk snacks by, say, one for the first week, then I’ll have cut them all in no time.
  • If I lift a small weight to start out and then keep lifting it until I’m stronger, I can add more weight later… and repeat the process until I’m as strong and lean as I like.
  • If I get in the water and swim 15 minutes today, it will be easier if I do it again in 2 days, and so on!

So, as 2023 continues, keep in mind this super-wise advice to start small, make progress one step at a time… be consistent… be patient… and you will BE SUCCESSFUL in whatever you pursue.

The Importance of Having a Coach at this Time of Year

The Importance of Having a Coach at This Time of Year

Have you ever used a coach?

Some people use them in work to get to the next level (and we sometimes call those “mentors”).

Some use them in relationships to strengthen bonds.

Some use them in diet and exercise to guide them through challenging periods of change.

Some use them to learn a new sport or help them get faster in running or triathlon

And right now, at the start of the year, it is a challenging period of change for many people.

Face it, even if life is going along well, you can’t help but wonder how it can get better in the new year… or worry about where you might get tripped up.

If you want to be stronger and more effective – at anything – then you should consider hiring a coach to increase your odds of success.

Why? Here are just three reasons.

  1. January and February always bring a ton of sheer pressure and hype that can trip you up. Resolutions, parties, projections… It can be so overwhelming! A coach helps you clear the nonsense and focus on what matters to you.
  2. A coach brings a somewhat dispassionate voice that friends and family can’t. Sure, a coach “likes” you, and maybe you’re even friendly. But a good coach stays at a respectable distance so she can see what others can’t and say what others won’t.
  3. A coach knows tricks you don’t know… like an accountant can do your taxes, and a mechanic can fix your car, right? A good coach uses her expertise to bring solutions and tactics to the table – resources YOU DO NOT KNOW ABOUT or, at least, how to use most effectively.

Don’t let the distractions and emotions of the season cloud your judgment. Use a coach to help you see clearly and act decisively.

You’ll be SO glad you did.

Is This The Hardest Part for You Too?

Is This the Hardest Part for You Too?

Starting something – ANYTHING – is often the most challenging part.

But if you can take action, one little first step, it gets easier.

This isn’t a self-help platitude. IT’S SCIENCE!

Remember Sir Isaac Newton? He said a body at rest tends to stay that way, and a body in motion will stay that way, too.

The point is, don’t feel bad about yourself because it’s sometimes hard to leave the house and go to the gym,……. or get on the bike……… or out the door for a run… start building a new healthy habit… or start doing anything you REALLY want to do but can’t seem to get motivated about.

I have been struggling with this myself this year.

The solution is often to take one small step. Just one. If you want to go work out, then please, start by putting on your gym clothes and your sneakers.

Tell yourself that’s all you must do: Just get dressed for the run, gym, etc.

Then what?

Well, shoot. Now you’re dressed; you might as well go out the door, right? And then what are you going to do except start running… See what I’m doing here?

Seriously! It’s a simple mind trick that works wonders. It’s like how a recovering alcoholic tells herself she just has to go one day at a time without drinking – even though she knows full well that she can’t ever do it again.

I started this year with walks and weights. Then walk/run and a bike ride.

I went from training 1x/ week to now up to 4-5x, and I can tell you it feels so good to be back, and my body wants more!

Little bites are so much more digestible than giant ones!

One action leads to another… causing momentum… and so on…

And if you need support getting started, I’m here for it…
