R & R

R & R

After a challenging year and a stressful holiday season, why not resolve to devote some time this month to a little R&R?

You know R&R. It’s a military abbreviation for “rest and relaxation” or “recovery and rejuvenation” or a few other things. No one seems to know for sure, and it doesn’t really matter. You get the point.

Soldiers in a war zone are sent to safe areas away from battle for their R&R. It’s not left to chance. It’s scheduled, and the schedule is followed.

We should be like that with our R&R, especially this month. Pick a week, a weekend, a day or even just a few hours for yourself. Mark the time on your calendar. Tell everyone who needs to know that you will be unavailable. And then follow through on your plan.

Do what you want.

Read a book, exercise, treat yourself to a walk in the park… whatever you want that is a gentle way to practice self-care and refill your tanks.

It’s not frivolous. It’s not selfish.

It’s super-important as part of a comprehensive wellness program. And if you don’t take time to recharge the batteries, to rest, to fill yourself up with new energy… well, then you’re not going to be any good to anyone else.

That’s why we need vacations, after all.

I just did this when I traveled to El Salvador and stayed off social media for 5 days. I surfed, napped, got massages, walked on the beach, did yoga and jumped off waterfalls. Doing pretty much only what I felt like in the moment.

I can tell you I am more motivated than ever to get moving on my mission for 2021. R and R is just so necessary to be successful.

And with so many of us working at home lately, we still need smaller breaks away from the job, from the family, from the pressures of our everyday lives.

Convince yourself it’s important and that you deserve it.

Because it is, and you ARE worth it.

Rockstar Triathlete: Ollie Garcia

Rockstar Triathlete: Ollie Garcia

Coach’s notes: I met Ollie in November, on a phone call telling me she wants to do a 70.3 in 4 months. After 15 minutes, we agreed to the challenge together. Normally, I do not recommend this at all. I encourage athletes to start with sprints and get faster first before going long. SO, for me I was taking a risk at Ollie (Claudia) getting injured by ramping up too fast. Learning that she was young and in shape, I decided to put her into my new Triathlon Transformation 16 week program and the results speak for themselves; 6:08 is the official race time, still waiting on her age group results, but I am so Proud of how far she’s come in such a short time. Ollie, your ultimate commitment to the training, while juggling school and work, implementing all my suggestions; like sleeping more than 1 hour before a race!!! You are a true Rockstar and this is simply just the beginning!!!! I can’t wait to see you at the end of 2021!!!

Age: 32

Profession: During this training I was a restaurant server. Now I am officially an ER nurse and Registered Nurse student.

Why you chose FCC to help you on your triathlon/health and wellness journey: I chose to sign up for a 70.3 with no experience and had less than 4 months to do it.  I was randomly buying running shoes a month before at the Shops at Sunset Place and this guy randomly gave me a flyer for Full Circle. He told me about Erinne and the team, if I ever got into triathlons. I told him I was thinking about it but not sure yet. When I decided to sign up for the race, I knew I needed to do it right… and not forgetting about that flyer it was a sign to call Erinne! I had kept that flyer somewhere in the car. I knew I needed help or another set of eyes to get my technique/form right and just a better plan than the free ones you can find online.

The moment I had my phone call with her… I felt good vibes and I liked the honesty behind everything that was discussed and how the Triathlon Transformation Program was not only the physical aspects of training and racing but, to maintain a balance in life and so much more. It was more about making it a lifestyle and not just an overplayed record or one time thing .

What is your “A” race for this season? My “A” race was this past Sunday (my first 70.3) 😉 the HITS 70.3 in Sarasota, and my next “A” is Ironman Florida in Panama City in November. Maybe another 70.3, in between then to make it a triple “A.” Is that even possible?! Lol

Please share your BIG goals: Oh gosh…so many. To break it down sport wise… I for sure want to bring down my mile time into the six-minute digits, make my longer distance race pace faster and get more experience on the bike so I can dial it in and just see where that leads. Swimming; I’d like to get  faster too, even if it’s just a few seconds. Ultimately, just go even longer with all three of them. Also, keep a healthy balance between this and finish nursing school. As long as I have good guidance, keep working hard with anything I choose to do in life and and keep having  fun, I know it’ll be a great journey.

Tell me about your successes so far: I just finished doing a 70.3 (pretty successful), Lol! I managed to do my first Sprint, Olympic, and 70.3 distance races in 3 months? Or, was it 4? Either way, that was successful in a way that I had no injuries and managed to get even fitter than I’ve ever been. I managed to work crazy hours at the restaurant, studying like crazy for my exams and putting in the hours to get to where I am now with the Tri-life without losing my marbles. Yup, I call that a win-win situation here!

What were some of your biggest Improvements in performance for the each of the following? Swim: Bike: Run: Nutrition/Health: Please include any Personal Records and Goals achieved

Swim: Being more comfortable in the open water swim. My technique or form has gotten better (I’d like to think).

Bike: Ohhhhh the bike, hmmm… I for sure got better overall on the bike. I’ve only been riding for 4-5 months. I know my pedaling has become more efficient, I am able to ride longer with the right amount of fuel and I made it past 70 miles once. That was exciting and I just want to do more!

Run: Before Full Circle my longer run pace was past 10:30 minutes, now I can hold a pace in a longer distance in about the 9:20-9:45 range, which is great! I got my 1-mile to be 7:25. My running form is better than when I walked into this.

Nutrition/health: Just adding more quality of foods into my daily life. I’m becoming more intrigued in the holistic side of things and it’s crazy how much food can play in any aspect of life. My body feels way better than ever. One major, important thing about this sport is recovery and allowing the body to heal between sessions. My health needs to be top notch and the right foods need to be there for that to happen. Now, my body recovers much quicker than ever!

Name 2 or 3 things that have made the biggest difference in your journey:

1. All the knowledge and support Full Circle provides, from the coaches and other team members. It’s very inspirational to hear everyone’s story and an honor to be around a group of people that have a desire to better themselves no matter what the goal is. Everyone is in the same storm but driving a different boat.

2. Being patient and smarter about how and when to defy limits. If I needed a day off, I would take it. Just learning to read my own body and listening to it.

3. Learning so much from my failures in some of my longer training sessions. It’s needed to help analyze the “what if’s” and what can be done differently next time to avoid what happened or rather adapt to it to get even better.

4. All your breathing techniques and just ways to be less stressed.

What excites you the most about being involved in triathlon? Being able to wake up in the morning and be around nature while doing what I enjoy, nothing beats that.

Triathlon involves three sports instead of one. There will always be something to improve on whether it’s physical or mental. To be honest, we can all show up at a race physically fit but the mind needs to be set too.  I see it as we all truly have inner beasts within us. My inner beast is stubborn and likes to defy limits to an extreme. My coach is there to help tame it to continue to thrive and to guide me with the knowledge that is given. I need to feed it with the right amount/quality of nutrition, gotta give it experience while also trying to make it master patience. With all that, it’ll be ready to dominate and demolish those inner demons that will attempt to come out and play and try to spiral me down into the darkest of places when it gets tough out there. To pass that finish line or even finish a training session, there’s no better feeling knowing I didn’t spiral down to that dark hole. I took control no matter the obstacle and just kept going. Yup, that feeling is what excites me and makes me want more and it influences me to rock it out harder than before.

What would you say to another person who was on the fence about joining our training program? At first, I didn’t think I needed a program. I thought I could do it myself.  I like being in my own hermit shell but, I was grateful I joined FCC and I know so many people can benefit from being part of this. I keep thanking the coaches everyday because they really do care and know what they are doing. No matter what your goal is, this program adapts to your wants and needs! It becomes a lifestyle that is healthy. Plus, the support you get from everyone is amazing and genuine. There is so much room for growth and so many options.

I say go for it! You’ll never know unless you experience it. “Small steps are always better than no steps.” It becomes a journey you do not want to miss out on!

Do you make this mistake?

Do you make this mistake?

I used to have a friend who was always too tired to do something; Or too busy. or too broke.

She always relied on one of those “reasons” for why she couldn’t achieve something she said she wanted.

And at some point, I got tired of trying to motivate and encourage her.

I still liked her and cared for her but, I realized she was choosing to impose nonsense limitations on herself because she wanted to and because it felt familiar, or because… well, who knows why? But she was clearly making the choice to hold herself back based on false narratives she kept telling herself.

When I realized that, I gave up.

See, I have learned that people are rarely too tired, busy or broke to do what they want – whether it’s something minor like seeing a movie, or something major like doing a triathlon or getting healthy.

Rather, we tell ourselves these familiar stories so we don’t have to face what’s really holding us back.

Usually, that’s a fear of some kind.

A fear of failure, a fear of embarrassment, a fear of how a new experience might cause us discomfort.

And you know what? That’s fine. Nobody likes to fail or be embarrassed, and some people only want the comfort of familiar experiences, and aren’t ready to stretch.

But at least understand your motivations. Probe your own mindset enough to recognize the limiting self-beliefs you’ve adopted and find ways to move beyond them.

If what you want is important enough, you’ll make it happen. If it’s not, just say so. Accept where you are, and let go!

But, getting into a good feeling place is a key important first step.

The #1 Secret to Health & Fitness Success

The #1 Secret to Triathlon, Health & Fitness Success

What’s the secret to getting the results you want in exercise, weight loss, or just about anything?

Is it … reaching Big Goals?

Is it … driving yourself into the ground constantly with miserable hard work?

Nope.

It’s just taking the right, small actions – moment to moment, day to day.

As often as you can.

Doesn’t even have to be every time.

When you consistently take the right, small actions, you eventually arrive where you want to go.

  • Want to lose weight? Think about what you’re eating today and why, not every day for the rest of your life.
  • Want to start running again? Maybe you need to buy new shoes, find a running partner, or do it in the morning before you start work.

Little things like that help us focus on process, and when we make these right, small actions over time… the process improves and the results often take care of themselves.

Let’s get after that next right step!!

Rockstar Triathlete: Martin Pombo

Coach’s Notes: Martin has made some huge improvements across the board since starting with FC. He is a busy family man but has committed to his training time and rarely misses a group session, and the benefits are evident. Adjusting his bike and transitioning from a road bike to a tri bike was one of the big changes and his swim is drastically improved! So proud of all the huge accomplishments achieved and looking forward to an even better 2021!!! Way to go Martin!

Why you chose FCC to help you on your triathlon/health and wellness journey?

After running my fifth full marathon in Chicago in 2019, I felt that I needed a new challenge, not only as a motivation, but also needed a real change physically. Involving a change in my nutrition, which I knew it was my biggest weakness to be better as an athlete and healthier as a person.

My good friend Romain, who convinced me to buy my first bike, also mentioned about FCC and how good the training program was, and the good people around it, so I said, WHY NOT? Because for me, the training program is a big part but also the environment around it.

Please share your BIG goals:

· Becoming a great swimmer, even in the ocean.
· Half Ironman in 2021
· Get a podium in an Olympic distance
· Becoming healthier and injury free
Not necessarily in that order 😊

Tell me about your successes so far:
· Have been committed to training, workouts and the team
· Look better physically and stronger mentally
· Reach longer distances swimming and biking
· Change small “big” things in my nutrition

What were some of your biggest Improvements in performance for the each of the following? Swim: Bike: Run: Nutrition/Health: Please include any Personal Records and Goals achieved:

Swim: improve in my form. Be able to swim +2300yr with fuel in the tank. Swimming below 2min pace (Sprint in 1:43/100yr).

Bike: Reached 56 miles based on training AND better nutrition/hydration while biking. From 16m/h avg. when I started the training program to 20.5m/h in the last race!

Run: better form, faster pace, bottom line: I’m a more efficient runner.

Nutrition/Health: I’ve changed almost all my nutrition habits, from breakfast to pre and post training nutrition routines. My body have responded well so far, I feel lighter but also stronger than before.

I think my body is in a journey “from Publix to Whole Foods body”.

Name 2 or 3 things that have made the biggest difference in your journey:

1. Nutrition
2. Pre and post workouts (warm up, breath, stretch, etc)
3. To be surrounded by crazy people, sharing objectives, struggles and achievements every day in person or WA.

What excites you the most about being involved in triathlon?

To be a more complete athlete, to be healthier but also don’t get bored with the same workout every day.

What would you say to another person who was on the fence about joining our training program?

I’d say about the great people in the group from coaches to athletes, about all the fun and hard work around the training workouts. I’d say how FCC is changing me for good. But first, what convinced me to take the first step. Call Erinne and tell her about you, she will do the rest.

Rockstar Triathlete: Romain Ritter

Rockstar Triathlete: Romain Ritter

Coach’s Notes: Romain is a dedicated triathlete. Coming to me with 2 years of experience, we needed to evaluate what his limiters might be to get him to the next level and reaching his new bigger triathlon dreams. The camera doesn’t lie and identifying where he can swim, bike and run better with improved technique was and will allow continued success. Testing and retesting every 6-8 weeks, keeps us on track to train to his current fitness level and energy systems. I’m super proud of the immediate successes we’ve had. Now, let’s get to work on an amazing 2021 and getting those Dreams to Reality!

Age: 39 and counting

Profession: Wine & Spirits

Why you chose FCC to help you on your triathlon/health and wellness journey? I started doing triathlons three years ago and quickly reached a peak. You can only go so far relying on internet searches as a training tool.

I then decided to join another Miami-based team which proved to me that a structured training program makes a world of difference. However, I was clearly looking for more than just structure. I was on the hunt for a more holistic approach (body/nutrition/mind) and a real team atmosphere which after meeting Erinne I quickly noticed I would have in joining FCC.

What is your “A” race for this season? My “A” Race was last Saturday, December 6, 2020 Challenge Daytona 70.3 (Middle Distance). Now that it has passed, I am already looking ahead to Challenge Miami 70.3 in March, 2021. Being a big racing (car) fan, racing on two world renowned tracks in special. More importantly, Challenge Miami falls on the day of my 40th birthday (and my son’s 7th). This makes it even more of an exciting goal to hit a PR in company of family and friends on an important turning point in my life. Having goals is great but making them even more personal and sharing them with those you are close to is just so much better. Hoping other FCC members join in the fun too.

Please share your BIG goals:

– Sub 5hr 70.3

– Breaking 25mph average bike on a 50+ mile bike

– Sub 1h35 half marathon

– A podium at least on one race – just for bragging rights 😊

Tell me about your successes so far: Since joining FCC 6 months ago, my focus was this past weekend’s 70.3. Beyond beating the stretch target we had set for the race, I feel like my biggest success, thanks to FCC, has been my improvement on my weakest discipline, the swim!

Name 2 or 3 things that have made the biggest difference in your journey:
1. Swim performance. I simply love Erinne and Jacquelyn’s ability to make a very technical sport seem so effortless. They have taught me so much. Not only is my technique better (still WIP) but I understand why I do things correctly or not.
2. Nutrition has been a major improvement. After the assessment, Erinne brought attention to the fact that although I had a healthy diet overall, I was not eating enough particularly pre/post workout and that I needed to adjust the type of intake I had. I have made those tweaks and added supplements tailored to my needs. Never have I felt better.
3. The importance of stretching/strength training

What excites you the most about being involved in triathlon? Until recently, it has really been about surpassing myself and being able to focus on multiple sports. I do not like routine.

I also love the community – I feel like all triathletes I have met have the same drive and similar values. Whatever the level, we can all relate to one another. This is special – as much as there is competition, it is always in a healthy, family-style environment. This is even more so true within the FCC team.

What would you say to another person who was on the fence about joining our training program? What are you waiting for. Give it a try. What have you got to lose. FCC is for all athletes, not just triathletes! Set a goal and allow FCC to help you deliver on it.

Rockstar Triathlete: Jesse Jimenez

Rockstar Triathlete: Jesse Jimenez

Coach’s Notes: To take up the sport of triathlon at age 63 is pretty gutsy and that is a great way to describe Jesse! In one year, he has become the triathlete he set out to become. He finished his first 70.3, just a few weeks ago, feeling amazing and signed up for a full Ironman in 2021. He also PR’d his International distance triathlon. An inspiration to our whole team to be an example of what’s possible at any age! Way to go Jesse, Ironman is calling!!!

Age: 64
Profession: Electrical Contractor

Why you chose FCC to help you on your triathlon/health and wellness journey? I met Erinne at a race clinic for Mack Cycle for my first Olympic distance triathlon. After finishing that race (and it did not go well), I realized I was going to have to be coached.

What is your “A” race for this season?

Game on 70.3, just a few weeks ago and next is Florida Ironman 2021

Please share your BIG goals:

Complete Florida Ironman with best times on swim, bike and run.

Tell me about your successes so far:

Recently finished 70.3 triathlon at Ft Pierce.

What were some of your biggest Improvements in performance for the each of the following? Swim: Bike: Run: Nutrition/Health: Please include any Personal Records and Goals achieved: I’ve learned a lot about nutrition all around and while training. Plays a big part in performance as well as getting enough rest.

Name 2 or 3 things that have made the biggest difference in your journey:
1. Definitely tri-camp (www.ultimatetricamp.com). Very focused takes you to next level.
2. Biking in NC was a big thing. Pushing on the bike in the hills.
3. Just being consistent about training, doing the work, showing up for work outs on a daily basis.

What excites you the most about being involved in triathlon? Well now I’m pretty well obsessed about it and the thought of going to Ironman, which I did not think possible at first, but now I know I can with help from Full Circle Coaching.

What would you say to another person who was on the fence about joining our training program? Do it!

Rockstar Triathlete Dariana Cardelino

Rockstar Triathlete Dariana Cardelino

Coaches Notes: Dariana is such an inspiration with how far she has come in such a short period of time. Her smile and enthusiasm for the training is what makes this sport seem easy for her. Without any experience, she listens and applies what we suggest and the results speak for themselves. It’s tough to be a young triathlete and most 20 somethings do not have patience for this sport because it takes more time and dedication.

I’m so proud of the amazing goals you have achieved and Ironman will be in your pocket soon. Be patient and keep getting stronger and faster before going long! Keep Tri-ing!

Age: 28

Profession: Social Media Strategist / Estratega de Publicidad Digital

Why you chose FCC to help you on your triathlon/health and wellness journey?

ENG. Every year I commit to something that would enhance my personal development and health, but in the past I used to quit very easy if I didn’t have a clear short and long term goal. I am from Caracas Venezuela, and there I used to have a group of people that would go out and train with me, but here it was very difficult to find a good group. I ran in 2016 Michelob Ultra half marathon Ft. Lauderdale, for which I trained on my own, and after the race I completely quit training. This year I wanted to make some changes regarding my goals, and one of them was to FIND AN AWESOME GROUP. After looking into several groups in Miami, and asking about them to people that are into this “triathlon world”, I came across Full Circle, and that was it! I cannot be HAPPIER to have joined an amazing family that has become part of my life. It is a big change to have the encouragement, daily motivation, and the partnership we have in Full Circle. I have learned so much from everyone’s achievements and mistakes and “TriLife experiences” and everyday for me it is easier to wake up and train and keep it going race after race.

SPA.

What is your “A” race for this season? Esape to Miami – International Distance

Please share your BIG goals: My biggest goal is to become an Ironman by next year. I don´t know which one yet. But that is the ultimate goal and the reason I´ve been training and signing up for short races this year.

SPA. Mi meta final es poder completar un IRONMAN 70.3 el año que viene y es la razón por la cual estoy entrenando duro este año y  me he inscrito en varias carreras cortas.

Tell me about your successes so far: My biggest success so far with Full Circle was completing my first Triathlon EVER in 1 hour and 21 minutes, with just 3 months of training. I placed 5th in my age group and 35 over 169 people in Mighty Mujer Triathlon. I felt so confident in the swim (I have never swam in a race before) and in the Bike that was my biggest fear, is not anymore, thanks to my training program and the support of my coaches and team. I am so excited and looking forward to PR in my next races.

SPA.

What were some of your biggest Improvements in performance for the each of the following? Swim: Bike: Run: Nutrition/Health: Please include any Personal Records and Goals achieved:

FORM: I thought I knew how to run, until I went to Erinne. My performance videos from before and after, and my overall performance, has nothing to do with before. It is a process I respected from the beginning and brought me huge positive changes. Same on the Swim, swimming is all about form, coach Erinne and Daniela have been helping me improve my form, and now I feel confident in the water.

SPA.

BIKE: from having no clue on how to use my clips, to ride 19 miles per hour average on my first tri and going on long rides with people I don´t know, it is amazing to see this and more improvements with time and dedication.

WEIGHT: I loveeee to eat, and even though I take care of my diet specially during week days, I am not frustrated anymore about weight and food. It is clever to have a good nutrition during the process, but as long as you balance it, you´ll be great . Also having the commitment of going to train during weekends, I have to reduce my late Friday nights and cut alcohol, I do not miss those days. Once you have a goal in your life, everything falls into place.

SPA.

Name 2 or 3 things that have made the biggest difference in your journey:

1. Coaches- entrenadores

2. Group –grupo

3. Communication and commitment with both – comunicación y compromiso con ambos.

What excites you the most about being involved in triathlon?

I would say the finish line. Crossing it strong and confident, makes me want more and see how far I can go. Managing my fears and facing them with knowledge and commitment.

La linea de llegada siempre es buen motivo para finalizar un triatlon. Me hace querer más y poner a prueba mi cuerpo y mente para saber que tan lejos puedo llegar, con conocimiento y compromiso.

What would you say to another person who was on the fence about joining our training program?

It is incredible how much you can learn by your own, but is even greater if you have a coach to guide your steps plus a team that know exactly what you feel, want, and support you through the process. It might sound “cliche” but if you want to go faster go alone, but if you want to go far go with a group.”

Gracias Coach!!!!!!

Rockstar Triathlete Liz Rodriguez

Rockstar Triathlete Liz Rodriguez

Coaches Notes: Liz was a complete newbie to triathlon. Having never swam or run much and a little biking we had to start from scratch. As is the case with people new to the sport, the excitement can take over and they end up doing too much too fast too soon and have a little injury or set back, which is exactly what happened. Shin splints, UGH! O.K. dial it back on running get stronger swimming and biking while we strengthen the legs and core to be able to handle the stress of running. I have a great protocol for this and although it takes time it works! She was able to finish not only 1 but 2 triathlon runs with good bikes. The swim for someone who is brand new can take time and this is not what an excited triathlete wants to hear. I have a system to get adults swimming in triathlon as fast as possible but you must do the work. Liz is getting better every race after she chose to believe she could do it. That was really the biggest deciding factor and again we used some Tapping or Emotional Freedom Technique to help build her confidence and get her out there. Way to go Liz, just the beginning for your triathlon dreams! You are going to KILL IT BADASS!!!!!

Why you chose FCC to help you on your triathlon/health and wellness journey?
FCC (Erinne Guthrie) was recommended to me by a coworker. The very next day, coach Erinne and I had our first call. I felt she understood what Iwanted and knew how to get me there. The following week I started the trial period and have been with FCC ever since.

What is your “A” race for this season?
My “A” race will be Escape to Miami Olympic distance triathlon in September. For now I’m focusing on the sprint, but if my endurance has improved by then, I might sign up for the international. We shall see.

Please share your BIG goals:
My main focus is to get stronger, faster and wiser with each race. I want to push myself to see how far I can go so I can look back in a year and seehow far I’ve come alongI want to look at my performance and think to myself “Damn, you’re a badass…you killed it!” Throughout this training season I’ve realized I am my only limit.

Tell me about your successes so far:
The biggest success I’ve had this far is completing my first triathlon. The Mighty Mujer Triathlon was an excellent choice. It was the perfect race to kick off this tri-season.

What were some of your biggest Improvements in performance for each of the following? Swim: Bike: Run: Nutrition/Health: Please include any Personal Records and Goals achieved:
Swim: I still struggle with the swim. This is going to be my main focus this summer. On a positive note, even though I’m not a great swimmer, I know I can make it out of the water and still have the energy to finish the race!

Bike: This is where I get to redeem myself!!! Throughout the training season I’ve gotten stronger and faster on the bike. In the MMT, I was able to ride 10 miles in 30:50. Going forward I’d like to bring that time to under 30 minutes. Given I’ve only been riding for 3 months, I’m confident I can improve this skill as time passes.

Run: There is a lot of room for improvement in my run however, it’s a much slower progress since I have to manage training with shin splints. With Erinne’s guidance I’ve learned to listen to my body and determine when to push and when to pull back.

Name 2 or 3 things that have made the biggest difference in your journey:
1. Learning what a mantra is and how to use it!! It honestly gets me through those moments when I just want to stop.

2. Accepting my main goal for my first races should be to complete them rather than to have record breaking time. It’s allowed me to focus on the quality of my performance and identify areas that I need to work on.

3. Form! Form in my swim, form on the bike and form in the run. Being conscious of my body posture, my form, and technique have made a big difference in each discipline.

What excites you the most about being involved in triathlon?
Bragging Rights!!!! I’ve wanted to train for a triathlon for several years and I’m finally doing it. This has been a dream come true for me. Anytime I’m not 100% in, I think back to this quote – “A dream doesn’t become a reality through magic; it takes, sweat, determination and hard work.” Success won’t happen on it’s own, I have to make it happen!

What would you say to another person who was on the fence about joining our training program?
I would say without a shadow of a doubt to give it a try! I could have gone online and printed a training schedule from some random website. I chose to test the waters with Full Circle Coaching. If I hadn’t joined the team, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Being on this team has kept me accountable, committed, and truly motivated. The energy and positive vibes in this group drive you to want to do your best every single time. Even those days you aren’t at your best, the team comes in with positive reinforcements and picks up your morale. The Coaches are amazing! So knowledgeable, friendly, and always willing and available to help you be the best athlete you can be. They truly care about you! I’m proud to say I belong to the Full Circle Family!!!!

Rockstar Triathlete, Monica T. Burns

Rockstar Triathlete, Monica T. Burns

Coaches Notes: Monica is an experienced triathlete that came to me originally to help with energy and fatigue from training for long course triathlon.  She had another coach and was putting in the time training but lacking energy and not getting any faster.  We started with a full nutrition and lifestyle analysis.  After 3 months on the new nutrition and supplement program that I suggested she started getting her energy back and feeling stronger.

We used a combination of healing foods, essential oils and whole food supplements to help her. Yet, she still was not getting any faster and frustrated because the training wasn’t allowing her to reach her true potential.  She then decided to sign on for the full VIP package with me which included video analysis in swim and run and metabolic testing in all 3 sports as well as some functional strength training.  As a talented physical therapist she is very knowledgeable but everyone can benefit from a video analysis.  Video doesn’t lie.  We were able to identify some critical form pieces that were preventing her from reaching her goals. The testing allowed us to use heart rate, pacing and power to train the energy systems she needed to get faster without guessing at how hard she was working.  It’s not rocket science and giving these numbers energy and attention during training sessions helped build her confidence to be able to swim, bike and run faster and stronger than she ever has before.

All of this along with some mental skills and reprogramming from past negative race events using “Tapping” has allowed her to become a more confident and balanced triathlete.

I am so happy Monica that you trusted me with your journey and the rewards have been amazing. It’s only be been 5 months!!! I cannot wait to see your future epic improvements! Super Proud of you! – Coach Erinne Guthrie

Why you chose FCC to help you on your triathlon/health and wellness journey?  I chose FCC because Coach Erinne brings a holistic approach to her coaching.  Triathlon is a lot more than a sport, it translates to all other areas of life.  A holistic and well-balanced approach to training is key.

What is your “A” race for this season?
My “A” race this season was ITU World Championship Age Group Long Distance in Pontevedra, Spain.

Please share your BIG goals:
My goals include constantly improving my skills in maintaining a healthy balance in life, to constantly improve on my triathlon skills, and to hopefully inspire others to be a better version of themselves in the process.

Tell me about your successes so far:
Qualifying for ITU Worlds was a big success for me.  Racing it and conquering the cold water (57F) after experiencing hypothermia last year, was an enormous personal success.  It took a lot of mental grit to accomplish that swim and many many many hours swimming to improve technique and efficiency.  It has been a huge breakthrough to overcome the fear of cold swims and swim panic too.

What were some of your biggest Improvements in performance for the each of the following? Swim: Bike: Run: Nutrition/Health: Please include any Personal Records and Goals achieved:

I have improved my ability to “run”, in order to actually be able to run an entire long course leg and do it with a negative split.  Swimming efficiently and confidently has been a game changer.  Zone training on the bike has been a huge gain as well.  Learning to respect training and racing zones to reap benefits up ahead has been a big improvement.

Name 2 or 3 things that have made the biggest difference in your journey:
1.  Nutrition improvements during training, racing and day to day.

2. Swim efficiency gains.

3. Mental skills.

What excites you the most about being involved in triathlon?
In triathlon I am able to explore my limits, to overcome and push boundaries and achieve goals that I once believed where unattainable.  The lessons learned while training and racing transfer to other aspects of my life, and I fell in love with that journey.

What would you say to another person who was on the fence about joining our training program?

Don’t be afraid to fail, be afraid NOT TO TRY.
