“Later” is a lie

“Later” is a lie

“Later” is a lie we tell ourselves to feel better.
“Later” is stated out of fear, never necessity.
“Later” actually means “never” in regard to reaching fitness goals and dreams.

It temporarily lets us off the hook without admitting we’re giving up our dreams. We can EASILY convince ourselves that timing, circumstances, and the demands of daily life are legitimate excuses.

But they aren’t.
Ever.
Life is chaotic and busy. It seems like too much too often — like you just can’t start or focus or grow in the right direction.

Fear, uncertainty, and self-doubt weigh us down, so we turn – again and again – to “later.” Which becomes “never.”

Enough! Break the cycle with these two insights.

  1. Realize that you are NOT unique. Neither are your problems or circumstances or feelings. Millions and millions of other people have navigated what you’re going through. If they can do it, so can you.
  2. You are personally responsible for where you are now and where you will be in 90 days and for the rest of your life. Stop saying later – and seize the moment to take one little step toward doing what you need to do. Do it right now. And do it again tomorrow. And every day.

Regardless of races being cancelled or happening, Your life, health and dreams cannot be put on hold indefinitely while you wait for the world to get perfect. You will be waiting for ever. Choose to live AS IF the race is happening and reap all the rewards from those efforts.

Life is too short for “later.” Embrace the power of “right freakin’ now!”

Gratitude is good for you

Gratitude is actually good for you

Each holiday season, we stop everything to share one common purpose; To give thanks.

The idea is so central to our national character that its myth goes back before the country’s founding. The concept of gratitude goes back even further, with its roots in ancient philosophy and all the world’s great religions.

But does it all seem like a big pain in the neck sometimes?

I mean, there’s the planning, the shopping, the cooking… This year, everything’s even more complicated because of the pandemic.

If we’re not careful, we can lose the focus on gratitude and instead get bogged down in pressure, negativity and crushed expectations.

You know – the holidays! (Ha ha…)

So, with that in mind, I want to share a super-important idea about being thankful:

It’s good for you. Yep, it’s true. Practicing an “attitude of gratitude” has physical, mental, spiritual and social benefits.

I know life is hard sometimes – this year, maybe more than most.

And that’s partly why being deliberately grateful is so helpful.

When our hearts are flowing with gratitude, there’s not much room left for fear or apprehension.

Grateful people tend to be happier and healthier than their grumpier counterparts.

Saying “thank you” spreads happiness one little bit at a time.
So, this year, amid all the hustle and bustle, be sure to express your gratitude on a regular basis.

I include all the items below every day after my meditation. I light a candle, grab my butter coffee, breathe some essential oils and do the following.

• Write a daily gratitude list.
• Tell someone you appreciate him or her every day – a friend, family member… heck, the mailman! It doesn’t matter.
• Journal, meditate, or engage your spirituality with thankfulness.

Here’s a bonus tip: Do this even when you don’t feel like it.

I promise it will make you feel better – and that’s always something to be thankful about.

Guess what? Spots are still open for my new 16 week Triathlon Training program that includes elements of Holistic Lifestyle practices for amazing results across the finish line! Are you a dreamer or a doer?

Are you a dreamer or a doer?

Do your words match your actions?

I can’t tell you how many times people say they want to get healthy, to exercise regularly, to train for a triathlon, to eat right… and then they literally behave in every way possible that’s the opposite. Partly it’s because of the stories they tell themselves.

• “I’m too busy.”
• “I can’t afford it.”
• “I’m not fit enough to exercise.”
• “People will laugh at me or I don’t know how.”

We usually call these “excuses,” and you can believe them IF YOU WANT TO.
But if you want to be a real doer instead of just a dreamer, then here’s what I suggest:

• Get clear on what you want and how to get it.
• Take the first step, without worrying about the second.
(Call it a “leap of faith.”)
• Feel the fear and work through it anyway.

Ask for help
• Feel the power and the pleasure and the SHEER JOY of growth.

Love yourself enough to do what you say you’re going to do.

I love setting doing a triathlon as the goal and seeing all the amazing healthy side effects that you get as a result.

Without even being aware of it- you come away as a stronger, healthier, sexier, more confident thriving individual that has no limits!

This sneaky thing is making you fat

This sneaky thing is making you fat

You might have heard that stress kills.
Did you know it can also make you fat?
True fact.

When we’re stressed, our bodies release the hormone cortisol. It’s part of the “fight or flight” reaction that served a super-important function in caveman times when our ancestors encountered, say, a saber-tooth tiger.

But it can be deadly in our modern world, leading to adrenal fatigue, sugar cravings, and overeating, – which can cause us to be overweight and want more sugar.
Which causes more stress.

Add the stress of triathlon training and all the sugary sports nutrition and we have a serious problem.

Vicious circle, indeed.

Stress also causes a lot of people to indulge in “comfort foods,” which tend to be high-fat (the wrong fat), high-sodium, and high-sugar.

How many times have you come home from a hard day and cracked open a bag of potato chips or polished off a pizza? It happens.

So, learn to manage your stress by breathing better, training correctly, improving sleep, substitute alcohol for something healthier, and eating a nutrient dense metabolically efficient diet.

Try yoga, meditation, mindfulness, or getting lost in a good book or listening and singing along to music, instead of reaching for the crap.

When you feel your body tensing up, notice it, and deliberately choose to calm down with three deep belly breaths.

Smile, even a fake one. It actually does lead our brains to smiling and meaning it. Similarly, “fake laughing” produces the same stress-fighting physical reaction that “real” laughter does.

It’s true!

If you’ve been doing all the right things and your body isn’t changing, you know where you should be looking – into your ability to manage stress and your training. To learn how to recover better.

Hit reply and let me know if this happens to sound familiar.

Guess what? My holistic lifestyle coaching is included in my new 16 week Triathlon Training program. I’ll teach you all about how to manage the stress of training and life for your ultimate results!

Goals Aren’t the Point

Goals Aren’t the Point

We’ve always been told that success is about having a goal and reaching it.
But here’s the deal about goals.

It’s good to have them. And it’s good to pursue them. But merely reaching the goal isn’t really the point.

It’s really about the journey.

It’s the steps we take along the way that matter in the long term. We’ve gotta enjoy the process along the way in order to make lasting change.

Here’s an example:

Let’s say you want to do a triathlon in 8 weeks. You start training over an hour a day as fast and hard as you can.

After 2 weeks you are so sore you can barely move.

The alarm goes off to train again and you hit snooze and then spend a week recovering from over training.

Then you realize you have pushed so hard you are injured and are not even sure you can do the race you registered for.

You feel miserable.

The whole idea of racing makes you feel sick.

You manage to stick with it and cross the finish line, with braces over both knees and a sore shoulder but after the photos are taken, will it have been worth all the torture?

What if, instead, you set the same goal but decided to follow a reasonable plan that would encourage happy, healthy progressive training and appropriate eating habits?

You are able to fit the training into your life and you have more energy and end up losing 10 lbs. as a complete side effect of the plan.

The race gets cancelled but there is another one a few weeks later, and you know you will be even more ready for your ultimate race results.

Could you be happy with that?

Of course! In fact, you would have enjoyed your daily life more, including the establishment of those good habits. You’d have been a better mom, dad, lover, employee and still get to that same goal eventually.

All because most importantly, you’d love your new habits and feel encouraged to continue doing them.

Change is good! Embrace the process in a truly positive way.

If you need some help with this, let me know.

We happen to have a brand new program that is designed with the above in mind! Beginner to advanced athletes welcome.

Stop This Now

Stop This Now

As children, we are happy to take credit when things go our way – and to deflect blame when they don’t.

“Yes, I did clean up my room – but it’s sister’s fault that it’s a mess again!”

But as we grow up, we learn to take responsibility for ourselves – for our words and actions, good or bad, and the consequences they bring.

It’s how we become well, responsible adults.
But it’s also how we liberate ourselves to achieve our full potential.

That’s right. If you’re feeling held back and unhappy about something, maybe it’s because you’re reluctant to claim your role in it.

This isn’t about blaming. Or pretending we have control over everything that happens.

It’s about acknowledging that we are responsible for what we do and for how we react to other people, things and events.

For example, which sounds more responsible and leads to a good result?

A) “I wanted to train yesterday, but the stupid gym was closed, my bike had a flat, I forgot to set my alarm, I drank some beers and now I have a hangover.”

B) “So I practiced yoga, used my weights at home, got on the bike trainer or went for a run, instead.”

We can choose to control ourselves.

We can choose to observe our reactions and improve them.

We can choose to stop pointing fingers at everyone else and stop playing the victim.

Successful, happy people create their own destinies by accepting what they can’t change (other people, places, and things) and taking responsibility for what they can (their own thoughts, words and actions).

Once we acknowledge that and really embrace it – We on our way to breaking away from fear and happily pursuing our goals.

What’s your next GOAL?

Getting the perfect body is simple

Getting the perfect body is simple

Just because something is simple doesn’t mean it’s easy.
Think about it.

If you want to learn German, for instance, there’s a simple way to do it: Just enroll in a course and practice vocabulary, right?
That’s simple.
But is it easy?
Probably “nein.”

It takes steady attendance, concentration, homework and commitment over time before you’re ready to fly solo in Berlin.

It’s the same way with achieving your “perfect” body.

It’s not that complicated: Eat right for your metabolic type, exercise, follow the patterns to get the results you want. But it’s the discipline, motivation and consistent work that keeps most of us from getting there.

Plus, “perfect” is different for every body.

There’s no solution that’s both simple and easy.
Actually, let go of the expectation that it’s going to be easy and JUST SAY NO to anything or anyone who promises it will be.

But it doesn’t have to be hard either. You get to choose if it’s hard or easy by how you feel about it.

So, before you set off in pursuit of your ideal physique, visualize what is necessary to get you there. Do you truly see yourself doing what it takes, for as long as it takes?

Then choose to go for it.

Remember it’s OK to consider how much time and effort you’re willing to put into something and then decide to pursue progress over “perfection.” That’s a healthier goal for you anyway and makes it simpler.

P.S. If you’ve been talking about your “perfect body” and getting healthier, Check out my 8 week Nutrition Essentials Course. This course was life changing for my self as well as hundreds of my clients that have achieved amazing results doing it. Doing this can change your life…

Doing this can change your life…

Are you a believer in the power of visualization?
I am! And I’m in some pretty illustrious company.

None other than “The Greatest” himself, Muhammad Ali, said,  “If my mind can conceive it and my heart can believe it – then I can achieve it.”

Most of us have more humble goals than he did, right? So that idea – of forming a picture in your mind, of seeing yourself achieving a goal – well, it can be super-effective in all kinds of pursuits.

And it’s not just new-age mumbo-jumbo. There’s actual scientific research that shows it can help us reach anything we desire – financial freedom, recover from illness, lower stress, and improve relationships.

Studies have found brain activity from thinking about activities resembles what happens when people actually do those activities.

So, it’s not just a matter of clicking your heels together, closing your eyes and saying “I want that” three times. We still have to take action for what we want, and live as if we already have it.

When the thoughts we have align with our actions, then we’re truly super-charged.

The best performers and athletes know this trick. They Imagine a situation as fully as possible in advance, using all their senses.

What will it feel like when they take the stage, run across the finish line or be in their best shape for example?

What will the conditions look like, the air smell like, who will be there, is the crowd cheering or music playing?

Some people find that writing it down with pen and paper helps, too.

I ask my athletes and nutrition clients to write down their affirmations and goals in present tense and give thanks as if they have already happened. I ask them to have reminders all around them and say them aloud several times a day.

I like saying simple affirmations – a statement that begins with “I” that’s followed by something I am choosing to manifest.

For example, I have a list of affirmations I chose from every day that I say out loud.

I say, “I am so grateful and thankful for my thriving successful body and unlimited energy.” Or, “I am clear minded, vibrant and healthy,” “I am ready to have my best race,” and “Full Circle Coaching is helping athletes globally achieve their dreams.”

These kinds of visualizations/imaginations will begin to affect your behavior if they’re rich enough and you tap into how you will actually feel as if it has already happened, taste it, smell it, see it, hear it, know it and be grateful for it.

The mind-body connection is mysterious and powerful. Start putting it to work!

Have you ever said this naughty phrase?

Have you ever said this naughty phrase?

One of the biggest phrases I’m constantly hearing from people is one that steals your dreams and is just a lie you tell yourself.

“I need to get my ducks in a row.”

Before I get heathy, lose weight, get strong.
Before I can start training for that triathlon.
Before I start my business.
Before I leave a miserable relationship.

Whatever the case may be, that dream-killing phrase is never the truth.
Because you’re always ready before you think that you are.

That phrase simply buys time, and it’s a sneaky form of procrastination that will keep you stuck indefinitely.

You will NEVER have your “ducks in a row.”

It’s just another way of saying “when the timing is perfect,” which we also know is impossible.

I wanted to highlight this today so that next time you or someone you love utters this silly little phrase of lies, you can recognize it.

Call yourself or your loved one out. Own the truth – the truth that the only solution is action anyway.

And you’ll all be better for it. You feel me?

IF YOU FOUND THIS BLOG HELPFUL IN ANYWAY PLEASE SHARE IT WITH YOUR FRIENDS.

P.S. If you’ve been talking about getting your “ducks in a row” in regard to training for triathlon and getting healthy. Now is the time.
