The power in unplugging

The power in unplugging

I have a new weekly email that I receive telling me about my usage on my phone and emails and last week it came showing I had ZERO downtime and it asked if there is any way I could make that a priority to schedule it in.

Seeing it kind of shocked me because balance and downtime are so important to me.

I mean, I’m the one teaching and explaining to others the importance of rest and recovery and not being plugged in all the time.

But here I am, not exactly practicing what I preach. Which is a big issue for me.

So this past weekend, I challenged myself to really unplug and I have to tell you, it’s been difficult. I am constantly checking my phone, seeing who texted, emailed etc., even when there is honestly absolutely no need to.

I think I’m a little addicted to it, as so many millions of others are and I’m not proud of it!

A few months ago, I challenged myself to become more transparent and to speak my truths about what I believe, what I know and what I’ve learned through education and personal experience about having balance in life and sport. Specifically, triathlon but I do think there is a line that we have to be conscious of.

I’m a huge fan and need all the data being collected while I train and it also allows me to see how my athletes are doing. This is the best way for them to easily communicate with me regarding their training.

But there can also be too much data being collected and the negative effects of wearing these devices that monitor everything you do, on top being on the phone and computer all day.

Being monitored by a device 24 hours a day is simply not healthy and can have serious negative repercussions – including adrenal fatigue, immune deficiency and sleep issues.

There has to be something said for completely unplugging for periods of time and regenerating from the most important thing around us. The natural environment; the wind, the sun, the ground, water, nature and also from all the people and relationships around us that are coming in second to our being connected to technology.

I really think if you are honest you know and can feel when you are overdoing it and don’t need a device to tell us if you did not sleep well or, if you’re feeling tired and wired from all the negative electromagnetic frequency coming at you all day every day.

I’m recommitted to the balance in my life. This weekend I paddles 3 miles out into the ocean on my paddle board and just sat quietly listened to how peaceful it was. Then, I jumped in the ocean and felt all the peace and energy surrounding me not coming from any app, computer or TV and I realized how imperative it is for me to include unplugging daily.

Now I’m wondering if any of you are feeling the same way? I got to really hang out with good friends, have great conversation, eat some delicious, healthy food and be in nature by just walking in the grass and on the sand and swimming in the ocean several times a day. I immediately felt much better for doing it and I feel more connected to myself and other people right now.

Although I’m still committed to being on social media, email and sharing my vision and purpose with people, I’m also committed to creating balance and remembering to put myself, family and relationships first and making unplugging a priority.

I want to challenge you to do the same, how about you start today!

The Most Giving Thing You Can Do

The Most Giving Thing You Can Do

I talk to busy athletes, people and parents all the time that struggle deeply with creating balance in their lives.

They struggle desperately with guilt.

Guilt of never doing enough.

Guilt of not enough time with kids or their spouse.

Guilt of not having a clean enough house.

Guilt of not being fit and healthy.

Guilt of not being enough.

Can you relate?

So much of the guilt often stems from doing what it takes to take care of yourself.

We “should” ourselves so much that we have intense levels of shame.

But the least selfish and most giving thing you can ever do is prioritize taking care of YOU.

Because you taking care of yourself does not mean you’re neglecting anyone else.

Have you experienced this struggle? Have you overcome it or does it still linger anytime you think of taking that time to take care of you?

Would love for you to reply and let me know!

P.S. If you KNOW the time for you to let go of guilt and take care of yourself has come, Please set up a call with me to discuss options to join one of my coaching programs for nutrition and lifestyle and health and fitness.

What do you dream of?

What do you dream of?

We all have deep hopes and dreams that for one reason or another, go unreached.

Often, it’s for the sake of kids, your home, or your career.

But I’m a big believer in “AND.”

You can have the amazing family AND a life of adventure.

You can have a thriving marriage AND a wildly successful business you love.

Most people think they have to choose, and it’s simply not true.

One of the first steps in bringing a vision to life is to speak it.

We hold back on verbalizing our dreams for fear of judgement, of failing to reach them.

So, I want to bring you that first step today so that you can begin to speak your biggest unfulfilled dreams into existence.

And I’m going to lead the way and get this started.
The big dreams and desires I have for my life that I haven’t yet achieved are:

  1. Let go and be present in every moment accept what is and surrender to what the universe has in store for me. This is an ongoing practice for me!
  2. Attract a loving partner to share life’s fun and adventures.
  3. Surf trip to get more skilled in this sport.
  4. Grow Full Circle Coaching into a larger community that provides triathlon and holistic lifestyle resources both locally and online.

Now, I want you to comment in this post below and tell me yours. Be open to what’s possible and share with me.

Once you begin speaking these things, you’re one step closer to them becoming a reality.

I can’t wait to read these!

The origin of your pain & suffering

The origin of your pain & suffering

Let’s face it.

Half of life is awesome and half is kind of terrible.
There are two sides to everything – life/death, happiness/sadness, joy/pain…
That list could go on forever.

But we would not really appreciate the good things as much without the bad things.

And as humans, we experience all of those things throughout our lives.
But you can begin to take back a little bit of control when it comes to the not-so-fun side of life.

Of course, tragic events breed sadness – when we lose someone close to us, we can’t help but grieve.

That’s not really what I’m talking about here.

What I’m talking about is the suffering we CAUSE ourselves when things don’t go our way – we get injured, lose a job, fight with a friend, break an arm…

The reason we suffer far more than we need to in these types of circumstances is because we live with the expectation that things should always be good.

We carry on just fine until something doesn’t go our way, then we stay awake at night, cry, feel frustration, anger, resentment…

Instead of saying to ourselves, “this is just that other side of life, my friend.”
Things are going to be awesome half the time, and they’re going to suck the other half.

This is what you signed up for when you were born.

Give this a try for me…if you can practice releasing the expectation that things should always be good and go your way and say to yourself “this is part of life” next time they don’t, see how much different you feel.

Expectation leads to disappointment and suffering far more than the events themselves.

Curious to hear your thoughts on this one.

Nothing Happens To You

Nothing happens to you

There’s this idea that “everything happens for a reason,” and I used to truly believe this, but I have shifted away from this belief.

If you’ve been reading my content for any period of time, you know I’m big on CHOICES.

That everything within your control is a choice.
Therefore, I don’t believe that everything happens for a reason but rather that we choose the reason for the things that happen.

Hear me out…
Human brains are incredibly intelligent things.
We are the only creatures alive that are able to find meaning in things.

We’re the only living species capable of thinking outside the box, so to speak. And as I see it…things happen and we make a reason for them.

Whether it’s a reason that makes us feel better about a situation, a reason that allows us to cope and grow from a situation, or a reason that allows us to perpetuate negative emotion, we get to choose it.

Whether we’re looking at tragic events like pandemics, illness, death of a loved one, divorce, or positive events like winning the lottery, losing lots of weight, or completing an Ironman.

Something happens. That something is inherently neutral, and from it, we create meaning.

Nothing has meaning but the meaning we give it.

I share this lesson with you for a good reason.
I want you to be aware of your ability to choose meaning the next time something big occurs in your life, for better or for worse.

Or, if there’s something in your life right now that perhaps you’re really struggling with, ask yourself “what meaning am I giving this?”

This is a phenomenal way to harness your own power. Give it a try, and let me know how it goes.

Gifts from Covid-19

Gifts from Covid-19

At first glance, the death, devastation, and destruction in so much of the world seems like (and is) absolute tragedy.

No one wanted this.
We would wish it away if we could.
But we can’t.
And therefore, we must choose to seek the good in it.

Whether it’s more time with your family, more focus on a healthy routine, rethinking what you want for your future, using being laid off to build that business you’ve been dreaming of…

Whatever the case may be, there are amazing things that are coming from this whole experience that not one of us ever saw coming.

There are new, incredible possibilities opening for you if you choose to look for them.

For me, it’s been the realization that the present moment is all that truly matters.

BE HERE NOW” is my daily mantra.

Being with those I care about as much as possible and living my purpose of helping others find their joy in health, fitness and wellness through the sport of triathlon whether there is a race or not is my present moment.

And for this awareness I’m incredibly grateful.

Finding gratitude in everything, even the ugly things, keeps us sane and moving forward.

It’s a choice we get to make.
I’d love to hear from you on this, reply and let me know.

Do You Make this Fatal Mistake?

Do You Make this Fatal Mistake?

When it comes to training for triathlon, health, fitness, and wellness, there’s no one size fits all, despite what the many gurus want you to believe.

At the end of the day, finding a methodology that will work for you long-term is absolutely key. But there’s a very common fatal mistake many people make when it comes to finding a long-term eating and fitness strategy…

They get distracted by flashy new ideas.

They become program hoppers always in search of more, of better. I call this the “BBD” always searching for the “Bigger Better Deal.”

I’m not saying you shouldn’t do some testing and find what works for you. Not at all.

But I see program hoppers continuing to hop around because they never give anything their ALL.

They might give it 30, 50, or even 80% but never 100% before they decide something’s not for them.

Because Beth started selling protein shakes that’ll instantly take 3 inches off your waist. Or because Bob found a miracle in cabbage and suddenly the plan changes instead of giving it enough time to work for you.

So, my advice to you is to find something that gets you results supported by an experienced educated coach so that you don’t keep running on that hamster wheel of program hopping.

O.k.?

And, if you’re guilty of program hopping and you’re tired of spinning your wheels, let’s talk. Comment below and let me know, and I’ll take it from there.

The #1 Thing for Changing your Body

The #1 Thing For Changing Your Body

Whether you want to change the health of your body, the appearance of your body, or anything else about it, there’s one main thing that’s required…
It’s not rigid dieting.
It’s not workouts that leave you pushing beyond your level of fitness and getting hurt.
It’s not any crazy supplements or pills.
It’s the thing that most people struggle with when it comes to reaching ANY goal – not just body-related ones.

It’s this unsexy, not flashy thing called…
CONSISTENCY.

That’s right – practicing the same behaviors and habits over and over again lead to results for better or for worse.

I normally don’t post BODY SHOTS of myself, but I decided to for this post because I am turning 50 in a few days and I want to show people how simple it is to be healthy and look good at any age with CONSISTENCY in exercise and eating healthy and a positive mindset. It’s really so simple.

If you consistently eat well all week only to binge on the weekends, you won’t ever see change.

If you consistently eat poorly and fail to exercise, you’ll be overweight, unhealthy, and miserable with how you look.

If you consistently eat well, move your body, and indulge moderately, your body and health will start to change for the better. I’m living proof of this along with many many of my clients.

Diets don’t work because they’re nearly impossible to stay consistent with – just like hardcore killer workout plans.

You’ve gotta be willing to find a plan for you that you can remain consistent with – THIS IS THE PATH TO RESULTS!

If you’d like help with a customized plan based on your ultimate goals and dreams for what you want to look like for health and fitness please message me or click this link to schedule a Break Through Session with me.

Based on your past experiences, does this make sense?

Show and Tell!

Show and Tell!

Way back in the day, I remember show & tell being one of my favorite days in school.

The thing I want to show and tell about is my passion for my Full Circle Coaching community.  I’ve been building this tribe for over 10 years, and I am super proud of how far we’ve come and where we are right now.

I’m a big believer in “like attracting like” and “practicing what I preach” by being an example to others. This is how I’ve been able to grow and thrive in this community, even in the situation we’re in right now as well as, watching each and every one of my members grow.

I thrive on keeping up the joy, happiness and inspiration of what triathlon and healthy living can do for your life and bringing this happiness to others.

Practicing being here and now, by focusing on what we do have control over in our daily lives, how we show up, what we are thinking, what we eat and our daily training habits can have a huge impact on ourselves and the world around us.

I can’t wait to hear what you want to show and tell with me!

So, wanna play?

I want to know the thing you are most proud of or most passionate about!

So, reply to this post in the comments below a picture of that thing and tell me why you’re proud of or passionate about it!

I truly want us to get to know each other, I can’t wait to see yours!

It’s Not About You

It’s Not About You

People want to make changes and get healthy all of the time.

They lose weight only to regain it.

They fail to start Monday after Monday.

They end up sick because they said “tomorrow” too many times.

Whether it’s giving into cravings/temptation, being too mentally exhausted by the end of the day to exercise, or you really struggle with things like food addictions or emotional eating, there are plenty of reasons people struggle with getting healthy.

At the end of the day, you have to remember this: IT’S NOT ABOUT YOU.

Well, of course, it’s your health, so in part, it is.

But who else does your health affect?

Your spouse/ partner, kids, or grand-kids?

Your co-workers?

Your friends?

Your health affects everyone in your life.

What are the consequences those people in your life would face if something happened to you… something that was preventable by focusing on improving health?

Motivation is such a fleeting thing.

Often, it’s something you have to create for yourself. If you’re struggling to make the choices you know are critical for your health, think of the people you’re making them for. I hope that does the trick.
